22DIS001: Australia and World History

This year, we have the option to explore:
(1) A history of the world. This includes major events that made an impact on the lives of people, nations and the progress of the world;
(2) In terms 3 and 4, we will be offering an Indigenous history pre-1788. The program will include where the first Australians originally came from, aboriginal peoples and their cultures, how they adapted to the changes in environment, Torres Strait islander peoples and their cultures, the Dreaming, Mungo Lady and Mungo Man and more.
We will spend some time exploring the history of the Kulin Nation. A major topic will be exploring how the First Australians managed the land. Here we will be using Bruce Pascoe's book "Dark Emu" and Bill Gummage's "The Greatest Estate on Earth".

We are a very enthusiastic group of players whose aims are fitness and fun. We laugh as hard as we play. You don't have to play at Olympic standard to join us. Classes are held every Tuesday 9:30am-12:00 Noon.
22DIS006: Philosophy

We intend discussing a wide range of philosophical issues, the thoughts of major philosophers, and contemporary developments in neuroscience. As the group will not have the benefit of a tutor in philosophy, we intend using online resources by experts in their fields, including YouTube videos, volunteer participant contributions, as well as, importantly, discussion and debate throughout this course.
22LIT004: English Language & Literature

The first hour is used to discuss media reports, read and evaluate articles or short stories, or to read and discuss poetry. We also look at words, their derivations, and how language changes over time. We also discuss member's current reading material. In the second hour, we read and discuss a book or play chosen for the duration of a term.
22MUS001: Musicians Sharing Group

Do you delight in the making of music? This weekly gathering aims to give musicians a chance to perform for and
with each other in a non-threatening environment. Both individual and small group performances will be encouraged.
Whether you have recently started playing for the first time or are picking up after a long break this may be what you
have been looking for. Robyn Sorensen, who is the other tutor for the group, arranges music for the specific mix of
instruments we play and leads the group playing. We encourage all instrumentalists to join us.

Pickleball is a fun paddle sport which you can learn in minutes and play for a lifetime. There is a net, paddles and a lightweight ball and you can play singles or doubles. Pickleball is lower impact than tennis and has features of table tennis and badminton. Young or older or in-between, you’ll enjoy this game which can be competitive or just fun and social. Pickleball will keep you active without being too energetic. If you want to get involved in a fun, social and active game, Pickleball is for you!
